The Centre for Ecological Research employs 132 researchers organized in three institutes. The Institute of Ecology and Botany is focused on terrestrial ecology including the ecological effects of land-use change, habitat degradation, climate change, urbanization, intensive agriculture, invasions. Their research covers a wide range of organism groups, habitats and methodological approaches. In this proposal, the involved research unit is the Forest Ecological Research Group, its main research topic is the effect of forest management on forest ecosystems and biodiversity, forest conservation management, forest dynamics, microclimate, biodiversity, monitoring of forest reserves. The Institute of Aquatic Ecology is focused on the field of aquatic ecology and its co-studies. The Institute of Evolution is the largest theoretical evolutionary biology scientific centre in Hungary, with research interests spanning all levels of biological organization.
